MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion has launched the National Programme to Enhance the Efficiency of the Construction Sector, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening workforce capabilities, improving project quality and promoting professional practices in line with international standards. The programme focuses on practical, hands-on training through specialised modules designed to address real industry challenges while developing the technical and administrative skills of contractors and workers.

Officials expect the initiative to improve project management practices, enhance execution quality and support higher productivity across the sector. Training sessions are being conducted in several wilayats, including Muscat, Nizwa and Suhar, alongside remote participation options to expand access for professionals across Oman. The programme is implemented under the supervision of the ministry in cooperation with the e-Building platform and with the participation of companies and suppliers specialising in construction materials and services, enabling the transfer of practical expertise and the sharing of best practices.Shahswar al Balushi, Adviser to the Minister for Construction and Engineering Consulting, said the initiative forms part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the efficiency and competitiveness of the construction sector.

He noted that specialised technical training programmes help empower Omani contractors, develop their institutional capabilities and improve the sustainability and growth prospects of their companies, while also reducing hidden building defects and enhancing the quality of completed projects.

Hussein bin Mashhour al Asfoor, Chief Executive Officer of the e-Building platform, said the programme seeks to integrate digital technologies into training processes to upgrade workforce skills and promote professional standards. He explained that applied training will address knowledge gaps faced by contracting companies, enabling them to enhance technical and administrative capabilities, improve project outcomes and strengthen overall execution standards.

Al Asfoor added that the platform supports stronger links between national companies and professional expertise while providing digital solutions that help modernise the construction sector and support its long-term sustainability in line with Oman’s economic development objectives.
